  1. I just started with one full time family this summer after juggling 2 part time families for the last 8 years. This is my first full time family. So I have started and ended with 4 previous families over the last 8 years. I cannot say I have been given advice on how to end with families, I have just experienced the agony for myself four times now. It certainly does help if you can end the job in a positive way. In two out of the four families there was ongoing communication about their changing needs between the parents and myself, so we could end in a positive manner, as they let me know it was coming with enough time to prepare and find a new family.
When I accepted my newest job, it was the first time that I had to initiate the conversation,(confession)that I was leaving not with just 1 family but 2 families for a total of 5 children lodged in my heart.
It was heartbreaking for me to not only to part with the children but with the parents too, whom I also loved. But they understood my need to have just 1 family instead of juggling 2, besides which the the pay, hours, just everything!!! was better for me. But fortunately I was able to give them plenty of time to find my replacement, so there was not any hard feelings for me leaving them in the lurch.
I didn't mean to write a book :) but I have been there, done that 4 times and just wanted to share a bit about my experiences.
